ヨルダン・ハシェミット王国の第77回独立記念日を祝して、天皇皇后両陛下、ならびに日本政府および国民の皆様に心からのご挨拶を申し上げます。
ヨルダンと日本は、1954年の外交関係樹立、1974年の外交関係再開以来、強固な関係と温かい友好関係を享受してきました。2024年には、アブドッラー2世国王陛下の即位25周年を記念するシルバー・ジュビリー祝典と重なり、二国間関係樹立50周年と70周年を喜びと共に迎えます。
過去数十年にわたり、アブドッラー2世国王陛下のリーダーシップの下、我々のパートナーシップは着実に進化し、相互尊重、価値観の共有、そして平和な世界へのビジョンに後押しされ、発展し続けています。 そして 私たちの長年の関係は、王室と皇室の間の格別な友情によってさらに強化されています。
アブドッラー2世国王陛下は、どの国の国家元首よりも多く日本を訪問されており、陛下が日本との関係を重要視していることを如実に物語っています。 直近の訪問は2023年4月で、アブドッラー2世国王陛下とラーニア王妃陛下は天皇皇后両陛下、岸田文雄首相をはじめとする経済界、政治界のリーダーたちと会談されました。 首脳会談では、岸田首相が日本とヨルダンの関係の重要性と、平和と地域の安定の礎としてのヨルダンの役割を強調しました。さらに、テクノロジー、デジタルトランスフォーメーション、教育、エネルギー、防衛といった重要な分野において、いくつかの戦略的イニシアチブが検討されました。
ヨルダンは、紛争が絶えない地域に位置し、平和を育むとともに、過激主義やテロリズムと戦う上で極めて重要な役割を担っています。 また、ヨルダンは世界の難民の約10％を受け入れ、安全な避難場所と尊厳ある生活を提供しており、一人当たりの難民数が世界で最も多い国の一つとなっています。
日本のヨルダンへの支援、および二国家解決に基づく中東和平プロセスの支援が地域の平和を促進することは、非常に高く評価されています。平和を達成するための中枢は、パレスチナとイスラエルの紛争を解決し、パレスチナ占領地のイスラエルの軍事占領を終わらせることです。 イスラム教とキリスト教の聖地の管理者として、アブドッラー2世国王陛下は、平和と礼拝の自由を維持するために不可欠な、これらの聖地の歴史的、法的現状を維持することに尽力しておられます。独立記念日にあたり、私たちはヨルダンと日本の堅固で建設的な関係を感謝の念をもって振り返ります。

In celebrating the 77th Independence Day of The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, I extend my heartfelt greetings to Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress of Japan, and to the Government and people of Japan.
Jordan and Japan have enjoyed solid relations and warm friendship since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1954, and the resumption of diplomatic ties in 1974. In 2024, we anticipate with joy the 50th and 70th anniversary of bilateral relations which coincide with The Silver Jubilee celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of King Abdullah’s accession to the throne.
Over the past decades and under the leadership of King Abdullah II, our partnership has steadily evolved and continues to develop fueled by mutual respect, shared values, and a vision for a peaceful world. Our longstanding relations are further bolstered by the exceptional friendship between the Royal and Imperial families.
King Abdullah II has visited Japan more than any head of state, underscoring the importance His Majesty places on relations with Japan. The most recent visit was in April 2023, during which King Abdullah II and Queen Rania met with Their Majesties the Emperor and the Empress of Japan, Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio and other business and political leaders. During the summit meeting, Prime Minister KISHIDA highlighted the importance of Japan’s relations with Jordan and the role of Jordan as a cornerstone of peace and regional stability. Moreover, several strategic initiatives were explored in the important fields of technology, digital transformation, education, energy, and defense.
Situated in a region rife with volatility and conflicts, Jordan plays a pivotal role in fostering peace as well as in fighting extremism and terrorism. Jordan is also hosting and providing a safe haven and dignified life to almost 10% of the world’s refugees making it one of the highest refugee per capita in the world.
Japan’s support for Jordan and for advancing peace in the region through supporting the Middle East Peace Process based on the two-state solution is greatly valued. Central to achieving peace is the resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and ending the Israeli military occupation of the Occupied Palestinian Territories. As custodian of Jerusalem’s Muslim and Christian holy sites, King Abdullah II is committed to upholding the historical and legal status quo at these holy places, which is essential for maintaining peace and freedom of worship.
On Independence Day we reflect with gratitude on the solid and constructive relations between Jordan and Japan.
