H.E. The Ambassador Nasser Shraideh - Biography

Mr. Nasser Shraideh has served as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of State for Public Sector Modernization during the period October 2022 to September 2024. He previously served as Minister of Planning and International Cooperation for two years between October 2020 and October 2022.

He is a seasoned economist with thirty years of experience in the public sector. Shraideh has vast experience from his longstanding work in international cooperation and fundraising, economic and trade policy, tourism, investment, private sector development, SME financing, community development and institutional capacity building.

Prior to serving in Prime Minister Khasawnehʼs cabinet, Nasser Shraideh served as Chief Commissioner of the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority from 2016 to 2019. From June 2011 to May 2016 he was Chairman of the Board for the Jordanian Free Zones Company. In 2010 Shraideh served as Minister of Environment, prior to which he was Chief Commissioner of the Petra Development & Tourism Region Authority from 2009 to 2019.

During his early career at the Ministry of Planning he was Secretary General of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation from 2007 to 2009. He joined the Ministry in 1998 and assumed the Directorʼs position for several departments including the International Cooperation Department, the EUJordan Association Unit, Aid Coordination Unit, and the Bilateral Cooperation Department.

Mr. Shraideh also assumed a number of positions in various UN and international organizations. Over the period 1990-1995, Mr. Shraideh was appointed Program Director at the Near East Foundation (an American

NGO based in Amman). 1995-1996, Mr. Shraideh held the positions of the Director General of Cooperation for Development (a British NGO based in Jerusalem), and the Regional Advisor of the Program Planning and Evaluation Office at UNRWA (HQ). In 1997, Mr. Shraideh joined the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as Program Development Advisor, also conducted consultancy works for the Economic Development Institute (EDI) of the World Bank in Amman.

Shraideh was also appointed to represent the Government of Jordan in a number of boards including the Chairmanship of the Aqaba Development Cooperation, the Aqaba Container Terminal, the Aqaba Airport Company, the Aqaba Ports Management & Operations Company. He also served on the board of Royal Jordanian Airlines, the National Tourism Council, Jordan Investment Board, Central Electricity Generating Company, Industrial Development Bank, Jordan Petroleum Refinery Company, Queen Alia Airport Hotel, Madaba Mosaic School, the Water Authority, the Jordan Valley Authority, and the Jordan Water Company (Miyahuna).

Mr. Shraideh was born in Irbid-Jordan on 5 June 1967, and obtained both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Economics with ʻHonorsʼ from the Yarmouk University, where he graduated in 1988 and 1994, respectively. He also has extensive U.S. and Europe based training on macro and micro economics, program management, fund raising, planning and research methods, negotiation skills, project appraisal and evaluation, small enterprise promotion, and training and moderation techniques.
