On Saturday October 7 Ambassador Lina Annab delivered a keynote speech at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government 5th Vision Network by Female Governors and Mayors Conference, emphasizing the need for persistent efforts in advancing women’s empowerment and international cooperation. The conference highlighted the importance of long-term commitment to women’s empowerment. ANNAB stressed the essential role of determination and political will in driving change.
She praised the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG), led by Governor KOIKE, for its exemplary commitment to gender equality. TMG’s policies have resulted in 17% of women in managerial roles, surpassing the national average. Additionally, TMG’s 43% paternity leave rate sets a high standard for both public and private sectors. ANNAB also commended Prime Minister KISHIDA’s appointment of five women cabinet ministers, including Minister of Foreign Affairs Mrs. Yoko KAMIKAWA.
ANNAB called for unity in combating bullying and harassment that discourages women from pursuing political careers, acknowledging that these obstacles persist. ANNAB shared the history of women’s movements in Jordan, highlighting ongoing struggles for gender equality globally. She emphasized the importance of intensified international cooperation to support vulnerable communities, particularly women, facing challenges such as the pandemic, conflicts, inflation, and climate risks.
ANNAB highlighted the plight of refugees and forcibly displaced people, stressing the need for global support and solutions. In her address, Ambassador ANNAB underscored the necessity of persistent efforts for women’s empowerment and urged international cooperation to address gender inequality and support marginalized communities.
