On May 29, 2024, Ambassador Lina Annab joined a panel organized by United Nations Development Program (UNDP) on the humanitarian situation in Gaza at an event titled “From Humanitarian Aid to Early Recovery: Leveraging Partnerships to Assess and Mitigate the Socio-Economic Impact of the War in Gaza.”
The event, held at the United Nations University in Tokyo, brought together experts and decision-makers to discuss the severe humanitarian and socio-economic impact of the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The panel discussion aimed to shed light on immediate and long-term strategies to address the needs of Gaza’s population, emphasizing the importance of cross-cutting partnerships among public, private, and NGO sectors.
The event was organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with Genron NPO, and featured opening remarks by Abdallah al Dardari, UN Assistant Secretary-General and UNDP Regional Director for Arab States.
Annab joined panelists including Yasushi Akashi, former UN Under-Secretary-General; Abdallah Al Dardari; Mohamed Abubakr, Ambassador of Egypt to Japan; and Hiroyuki Suzuki, Associate Professor at the University of Tokyo.
The discussion, facilitated by Yasushi Kudo, President of Genron NPO, focused on linking humanitarian response with early recovery efforts to restore local systems and resume basic services in Gaza.
The event underscored the critical need for coordinated humanitarian and recovery interventions to mitigate the profound socio-economic impact of the war on Gaza and the broader occupied Palestinian territory.
