Prime Minister Al Khasawneh Meets with with Dr. TANAKA Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)

Tokyo February 19, 2024: Prime Minister Al Khasawneh met with Dr. TANAKA Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).  THE MEETING underscored the pivotal role of JICA in Jordan’s development and home-grown reform efforts.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Al Khasawneh commended JICA’s unwavering commitment to Jordan, applauding the Agency’s ongoing efforts and impactful projects across various sectors in the country. Emphasizing JICA’s indispensable role as a development partner, Al Khasawneh lauded the agency’s office in Amman for its instrumental role in fostering cooperation and partnership between Jordan and Japan.

Highlighting Jordan’s key developmental priorities, particularly in education, water resources, and significant projects in strategic areas like Aqaba and the Baptism site, Al Khasawneh expressed  the importance of Japan’s financial and technical support.

Moreover, Prime Minister Al Khasawneh expressed keen interest in expanding the scope of training programs provided by JICA, aligning with the government’s vision for administrative modernization and capacity building.

Dr. TANAKA  affirmed JICA’s steadfast commitment to supporting Jordan’s development efforts, emphasizing the Agency’s continued  assistance through diverse programs. Dr. TANAKA also underscored JICA’s support for refugees in Jordan, reflecting the Agency’s broader humanitarian mission.

The meeting between Prime Minister Al Khasawneh and President TANAKA Akihiko reaffirms the strong and enduring partnership between Jordan and JICA, paving the way for collaborative efforts towards sustainable development and prosperity in the region.

The meeting was  attended by Ambassador of Jordan to Japan, Lina Annab, and Ministers of Digital Economy, Entrepreneurship, Investment, Kholoud Al-Saqqaf, Planning, and International Cooperation, Zeina Touqan.

Prime Minister Dr. Bisher Al-Khasawneh accompanied by an official delegation including Ministers of Digital Economy, Entrepreneurship Mr. Ahmad Al Hanandeh, Minister of Investment, Ms. Kholoud Al-Saqqaf, Minister of Planning, and International Cooperation, Ms. Zeina Touqan, are on an official visit to #Japan that started on February 15 until February 19th, 2024.  The visit is intended for discussions with Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and the cabinet ministers and senior officials on bilateral relations, and ways to support and enhance them in all fields.  The year 2024 marks the 70th anniversary on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Japan.
